Our children age 3 – Grade 5 during Large Group Music & Puppets and Shepherd Groups started the fall by learning Old Testament stories of Samuel, Saul, and David, and during November their crafts, dramas, games, and snacks at Kingdom Quest will teach them about the coming and birth of Jesus according to the Gospel of Luke. Starting in November, our youth will meet in Bible study classes of Grades 6-7 and Grades 8-12 to study The Story, a curriculum that covers the Bible from Genesis through Revelation in the format of 31 chapters that tie the threads of the Scriptural narrative to Christ Jesus and the cross. Please contact Jordan to find out more information.
Mark your calendars and join the R&R Group on Thursday, November 6th to watch a fun filled holiday movie. We will meet after the Thursday morning Bible class, about 11 o’clock, in the Fellowship Hall. Bring your own lunch and then enjoy snacks and drinks provided, while you watch the movie. Hope you can attend!
Lutheran Social Services of Austin has given us an opportunity this Christmas season to bring great joy to our children in the Austin area who have been removed from their biological families due to abuse or neglect. Through our annual participation in the Angel Tree Project, we can brighten the lives of children by blessing them with gifts for Christmas Day! Starting on Sunday, November 9, a Christmas tree in the narthex will be decorated with paper angels, listing a child’s name, age, interests, and a short gift wish list. Individuals or groups can select one or more angels, children, to sponsor for Christmas, and can also bring gifts cards (to HEB, Target, Wal-Mart) for foster families. The final Sunday to bring in items will be Sunday, December 7.
The mission of Partnerships for Children has always been to provide Child Protective Services caseworkers with the resources to better serve the kids in our community. One of their programs is the Rainbow Room, a 24/7 resource center located within the Child Protective Services offices (14000 Summit Dr, 78728) where caseworkers can gather new and essential items needed for the kids in their caseload whose lives are in crisis. On Saturday, November 22 from 10 am – 12 noon we will serve at Rainbow Room to prep their warehouse for holiday wishes. Please contact Jordan for details and to sign up to serve.
Our young people will begin to prepare for “Big Star,” our 2014 Christmas Program on Sundays starting November 30, with a special rehearsal on Saturday, December 20 from 9:30-11:30 am, and present the program to the congregation during the 10:45 service on Sunday, December 21 with a Christmas reception to follow. Families, stay tuned for announcements for how to be involved in this year’s production.
